For starters, Majikarp is one of the weakest pokemon in the game and the cartoon. Why I like him is a mystery. In Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Gold, and Silver versions Majikarp is pretty useless. Don't underestimate him though, In Gold and Silver there is a red Gyarados Majikarp's evolution. However, a normal Majikarp turns into a blue Gyarados. Why is it red you ask? That's because it evolved from an ancient Majikarp. This Gyarados can only be found in anger lake in Gold and Silver version.
but on the other hand in pokemon gold when you catch a migikarp its like at level 20-25 in lake anger. So when you catch it all you have to do is to evolve it into a gyrados and you have a very good pokemon. Before the time of the weak, common Majikarp, there was the ancient Majikarp. This fish was strong and useful unlike it's descendants.
